Winter is coming

It is hot, hot, hot in the UK recently so maybe we should think HO HO HO instead?

I know I know – it is way too early to be talking about Christmas, but trust me – time will fly until then! And how wonderful could it be, if you choose to spend it slightly different than usual? Why not treat yourself and spend the Winter holidays in true British style this year?

Here in the UK, we are big on the winter festivities! Think warm log fires, delicious hot drinks (including famous mulled wine), hearty meals, spiced desserts, cosy sweaters and plenty of activities that will easily put you into the merry spirit!

CHRISTMAS MARKETS

Shopping during that period is spoiling everyone with choice! High street shops, independent stores and boutique venues are inviting with magic decorations and rich stock. However, it is markets that steal hearts of many. Undoubtedly one of the most important part of the British Winter are Christmas Markets – these joyful fairs are always full of surprises! Oh, how do we love those markets!

The atmosphere is truly unique – colourful lights, festive decorations, Christmassy music and of course, markets themselves! Dozens or even hundreds of stalls with boutique and designer arts & crafts include everything you can think of. From paintings, jewellery, pottery or unique fashion, to gifts for all-ages and genders, toys, games, home and garden accessories and many, many more! It’s not just about Xmas decorations and cards – you can really find true gems here!

And food & drink markets?! Oh, don’t even get me started on those… Inspired by cuisines from all around the world, simply thinking about it makes me hungry.

Sweet hot chocolate, warm waffles and cakes, marshmallows melting in your mouth, gingerbread cookies, mince pies, sticky toffee or brandy puddings, cinnamon rice puddings, mulled wine… And savoury? All types of cheeses, varieties of grilled or smoked meat, including pigs in blankets, roast turkey rolls, glazed hams, pies… And luckily, an array of vegan and vegetarian options too – all well spiced, heart and belly-warming! Yum!!! I can write about food forever…

Markets are usually held from mid-November until Christmas Eve / New Year’s – depending on the city, however it is best to check specific destinations before you plan it. Some of the most remarkable ones can be found in Bath, York and Stratford-upon-Avon in England or Edinburgh in Scotland.

WINTER WONDERLANDS

Usually connected and located close to the Christmas Markets, Winter Wonderlands are all about fun! They can be found in majority of big cities and often in smaller towns. Fairground attractions include rides, variety of games with lovely prizes, usually toys or coupons, Santa’s Grottos, live music or orchestras playing Christmassy music and carols; sometimes you can even find karaoke! I also love ice-skating! Riding on rink is the perfect festive activity to kick off your Winter Wonderland experience!

Our base location is in Cardiff and that Wonderland always melts my heart! The one in London however – is just wow! It is absolutely spectacular – fun and scary rides, igloo-like venues with ice sculptures, human circus shows, photobooths with themed background, and plenty, plenty of other activities to fulfil your day! London is a must!
