  1. Day 1 & 2 Loch Lomond and the Trossachs

    Landing in Glasgow or Edinburgh, collect your vehicle and make your way the short journey to the rustic shores of Loch Lomond. From your loch-side base you can enjoy leisurely strolls along the bonny banks, take boat trips on the glassy waters or make side-trips in to the surrounding countryside. A visit to nearby Glengoyne Distillery will offer an insight in to Scotch Whisky whilst those seeking culture can head South for Glasgow, Scotland’s bustling city, home to the Kelvingrove Museum and St Mungo's Cathedral.

  2. Day 3 Inveraray Castle and Glencoe

    Today get you’ll enjoy the history and landscapes of the Highlands proper. Head North to the charming Scottish town of Inveraray which is home to Inveraray Castle, an opulent baronial manor and formal gardens which has featured in episodes of Downton Abbey. After exploring the collections, pass north over the barren wilderness of the Rannoch Moor before descending Glencoe; you’ll want plenty of time for photo-stops or leisurely rambles through the breath-taking panoramas.

  3. Day 4 & 5 Glenfinnan and the Isle of Skye

    This morning, pass through Fort William and take the "Road to the Isles", pausing to see the Glenfinnan Monument dedicated to Bonnie Prince Charlie and the magnificent Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the "Harry Potter" movies. Then journey by ferry to the stunning Isle of Skye. From your base in the heart of the island you can discover island life and explore the beautiful land and seascapes abundant in wildlife. Tour the famed Trotternish Peninsula with its natural features such as “Kilt Rock” and “the Old Man of Storr” or simply wander the bustling harbour and pastel fisherman's cottages of Portree. Possible cultural visits include Dunvegan Castle, home of the Macleod Clan, and the distillery of famed malt whisky, Talisker.

  4. Day 6 & 7 The Highlands, Loch Ness and Inverness

    Your journey today takes you on a scenic road trip across the Northern Highlands. Crossing back to the mainland via Skye Bridge you can pause at one of Scotland’s iconic castles at Eilean Donan Castle before descending in to the Great Glen. Passing along the windswept banks of the eerie Loch Ness keep an eye out for Nessie; perhaps take a boat ride on the icy waters or make a visit to the weather-beaten ruin of Urquhart Castle perched overlooking the loch. With charming Inverness as your base, a wealth of places of interest are within a short drive including the eerie Culloden Moor, site of an ancient battlefield where the Jacobites rose against the English, and the intriguing standing stones of the Clava Cairns.

  5. Day 8 The Cairngorms and Pitlochry

    Make your way south in to the heart of Scotland passing through the hills and woodlands of the Cairngorm National Park, a haven for walkers and wildlife lovers. You may choose to ride on the Cairngorm Mountain railway or visit the Speyside region renowned for its food and whisky – visit one of the many distilleries to learn about the production of the region’s distinct whisky and of course to sample a wee dram or two. Continue to the charming Victorian town of Pitlochry where you can visit the magnificent Blair Castle or take a stroll along the river.

  6. Day 9 Stirling and the Lowlands

    Continue your scenic journey south perhaps pausing in the riverside village of Dunkeld before arriving in Dunblane, home to an impressive cathedral. From your Perthshire base explore this charming region – perhaps head for Doune Castles whose ancient ramparts have featured in Monty Python’s Holy Grail and more recently as Winterfell in Game of Thrones. Alternatively, visit historic Stirling, whose ancient castle was once the Royal Seat of Scotland, and the nearby Wallace Monument erected in dedication to the Great Scottish Hero "Braveheart" William Wallace!

  7. Day 10 & 11 The Kelpies and Elegant Edinburgh

    A short journey south will take you to the magnificent modern sculptures of the Kelpies, always worth a photo-stop, before arriving in Edinburgh. Explore this magnificent city from the winding streets of the cobbled old town to the wide avenues of the opulent Georgian new town. Visit the Palace of Holyrood House or the national gallery and museum before climbing the Royal Mile to the city's centrepiece at the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, home to the Scottish Crown Jewels, the Stone of Destiny and St Margaret's Chapel.

This self-guided tour is customizable and can be taken at any time however please note that certain start days may not be possible due to ferry timetables on the outer islands.  Please request your dates with your Britain Expert and they will check to ensure that the itinerary is possible.
