  1. Day 1 Dunkeld, the Grampian Mountains, Loch Ness and Ullapool

Departing Edinburgh, we travel north into the Scottish Highlands. First stop will be the historic village of Dunkeld where you will take a short walk through the forest to the picturesque waterfalls before continuing north through the Grampian Mountains to the Spey Valley where there will be an opportunity to stop for lunch. In the afternoon we will pass along the shores of the world famous Loch Ness for some Nessie spotting then in to the remote far northern Highlands as we visit the impressive waterfalls at Corrieshalloch Gorge. Our day of outstanding natural beauty ends on the North West Coast of Scotland at the charming fishing port of Ullapool for your overnight stay.

    Overnight: Ullapool

  2. Day 2 The Isle of Lewis, Stornoway and Lewis Lighthouse

Today we take the morning ferry from Ullapool for a two-hour sailing along Loch Broom, past the Summer Isles then out across the Minch to Stornoway – the main town on Lewis and capital of the Outer Hebrides. Keep an eye out for wild-life including dolphins, whales and seabirds in the frothing waters and skies overhead during the crossing. In the afternoon we explore the North West coast from Arnol with its historic old “blackhouse”, through traditional crofting townships to Port of Ness and the very northern tip of the island – the Butt of Lewis. From the lighthouse here there is nothing between you and the Americas!

    Overnight: Stornoway, Isle of Lewis

    Meals: Breakfast included

  3. Day 3 The Crofting Communities and Prehistoric Remains of Lewis

Today will be spent exploring the magnificent Isles of Lewis and her landscapes, untouched beaches and prehistoric remains. The fascinating circular stone fort at Carloway Broch will be your first stop followed by visits to a series of tiny island communities such as Gearrannan and Shawbost which bear hallmarks of the traditional "crofting" way of life on these remote islands. Then it’s on to Callanish with its mysterious ancient stone circle which predates the pyramids of Egypt before touring the remote district of Uig with its fine, sandy beaches at Bhaltos, dramatic sea cliffs and rugged hills. This is the wilderness of the Western Isles at its finest.

    Overnight: Stornoway, Isle of Lewis

    Meals: Breakfast included

  4. Day 4 The Isle of Harris and Portree

Travelling south today from the wild moorlands of Lewis we visit the more mountainous Isle of Harris – almost but not quite an island on its own. This isle is uniquely famous for the locally produced cloth, traditional Harris Tweed, which has seen a recent resurgence and popularity amongst fashion designers. Harris is also home to the highest mountains in the Outer Hebrides and the stunning white sands of deserted Luskentyre. After a morning of exploring South Harris you will stop for lunch in the small port of Tarbet from where you will catch the late afternoon ferry to Skye. Once on Skye it is less than an hour to Portree, the island’s main town, and your overnight stay.

    Overnight: Portree, Isle of Skye

    Meals: Breakfast included

  5. Day 5 The Natural Beauty of the Isle of Skye

Today's itinerary on the beautiful Isle of Skye is flexible dependent on the preferences of the group and the travel conditions of the day. There are many possibilities including touring the Northern part of the Island around the Trotternish Peninsula to the stunning Quiraing mountain pass and enjoy a spectacular walk through some of Skye’s extraordinary geological scenery such as the "Old Man of Storr" or Kilt Rock, composed of basalt columns (reminiscent of the pleats in a kilt) with its waterfall cascading over the cliffs and down into the sea below. Alternatively you may visit the West of the Island and travel to Neist Point for a walk out to the lighthouse at the most westerly point on Skye and where sea-life thrives in the crystal waters. Visits to Dunvegan Castle, ancient ancestral seat of the Clan McLeod, and Talisker Distillery also make interesting cultural stops. We return you to your accommodation in Portree in the late afternoon for you to enjoy a free evening in the village.

    Overnight: Portree, Isle of Skye

    Meals: Breakfast included

  6. Day 6 Eilean Donan Castle, Glencoe and Fort William

Departing from Portree, we make our way south to Edinburgh on a return journey via Scotland’s scenic West Coast that features many highlights – we pass the Cuillin Mountains on route to the iconic Eilean Donan Castle where we may stop for a photo. As we pass Fort William we have views of Britain's highest peak at Ben Nevis before passing through the dramatic scenery of Glencoe valley renowned for its infamous Clan Massacre. Travelling back south through the Central Highlands the last stop of the day will be in Killin beside the peaceful Falls of Dochart before returning to Edinburgh where your tour ends at approximately 7pm.
