  1. Day 1 Welcome to Scotland

    This morning, arrive in to Scotland and make your way to your hotel in central Edinburgh (group transfers are available from Edinburgh Airport at set times). After checking-in at your hotel, the rest of your first day is yours, free to relax or begin exploring Edinburgh at leisure before meeting your Travel Director and fellow travel companions at 17:30 for a Welcome Dinner. Enjoy this first opportunity to get to know each other over food and drink ahead of our first day exploring Scotland.

  2. Day 2 Edinburgh City and Edinburgh Castle

    This morning we are joined by a local expert, a resident of Edinburgh, to see the highlights of the city. Sit back and relax as we drive through the elegant Georgian New Town, famed for its neoclassical Adam facades, and the bustle of the medieval Old Town. Here we enjoy a visit to the stunning Edinburgh Castle, perched high over the city; see the Stone of Destiny and Scotland’s Crown Jewels. The afternoon is free to explore the city; perhaps a visit to the National Gallery and the art treasures inside? On selected departures throughout August, you will also attend the Military Tattoo, a spectacularly colourful mix of pipes and drums, dance and display, beautifully set against the backdrop of the Castle.

  3. Day 3 Ardgowan Estate and the Scottish Borders

    Departing the Scottish capital, we visit the Ardgowan House, beautifully set among a 10,000-acre coastal estate on Scotland’s dramatic West coast. Here, meet Sir Ludovic Shaw Stewart for an insightful tour of the manor and its unique history. Afterwards, we'll enjoy a freshly-made, traditional Scottish Tea and Scones. Moving on, we visit world-famous Gretna Green to see the spot where runaway lovers from England crossed the border to Scotland to marry over the anvil in the blacksmith’s shop. Leaving Scotland behind us, we continue to the picture-perfect region of the English Lake District. Arriving at the hotel, dinner is served.

  4. Day 4 The English Lake District

    Today we devote the day to the picturesque landscapes of the Lake District, famed for its rugged mountains and tranquil waters. This region is synonymous with English poetry, art and literature; we'll visit William Wordsworth’s grave at St Oswald’s Church in the charming lakeland village of Grasmere. Later we enjoy a relaxing cruise on Lake Windermere for magnificent views of the secluded bays and wooded islands before embarking on a traditional steam train, travelling along the banks of the stunning River Leven.

  5. Day 5 Haworth and Scenic Yorkshire

    Enjoy a morning of leisure today in Bowness-on-Windermere a charming Cumbrian village before meeting up with the group to continue our journey. Today we pass through the scenic Yorkshire Dales to the village of Haworth where we visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum, family home of the famous Bronte sisters whose works were inspired by the surrounding Yorkshrie Dales and Moors. We continue to York, one of England's oldest cities. By evening, we are treated to a private tour of Birdsall House the family home of the Willoughbys since 1719. Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine and canapes as you learn about the estate and admire the incredible antique collections. We then take our seats in the stately dining room to join one of the family members for dinner - an unforgettable experience.

  6. Day 6 York City and York Minster

    Waking up in York, we'll spend today exploring this beautiful historic city. We'll be joined by a local expert who'll guide us through the town to see the impressive city walls and gates, the famous Shambles where rickety buildings lean over hte street below and the towering York Minster, NOrthern Europe's largest gothic cathedral. By afternoon, there will be plenty of free time to further explore York independently; perhaps visit the National Railway Museum or shop in the city's many boutiques.

  7. Day 7 Historic Lincoln and the Magna Carta

    Today, we continue our journey South, making our first stop at the city of Lincoln, known for its stunning medieval cathedral. Here, we visit one of the finest Norman castles in England. The castle also houses a Victorian prison and one of the few remaining copies of the Magna Carta. Moving on from Lincoln, we travel to our next overnight stay in Stratford-upon-Avon home beautifully set on the banks of the river Avon. This charming town is famous for its wealth of black and white timber-framed buildings, synonymous with Tudor Britain.

  8. Day 8 Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon

    After a relaxed start, we re-group to discover how Shakespeare and his incredible, timeless works continue to delight audiences today. We walk the short distance to his birthplace, which exhibits interesting historical artefacts and memorabilia relating to the great playwright. By afternoon we enjoy free-time to explore this charming town indepdenetly before joining your tour director and the rest of the group for a feast of a traditional Sunday Roast Dinner, served with fluffy Yorkshire puddings and complete with all the trimmings.

  9. Day 9 Blenheim Palace and the Cotswolds

    This morning we depart for an enchanting journey over the rolling hills of the Cotswolds and through picture-perfect chocolate-box villages of thatched cottages. We'll pause at the magnificent and grandiose Blenheim Palace, the ancestral home and birthplace of the “Greatest Ever Briton”, Winston Churchill. Explore the house and gardens before we continue to the elegant Georgian town of Bath in the farming county of Somerset. Upon arrival, your Travel Director introduces you to the city and some of its key sites including the sandstone Pulteney Bridge and historic Bath Abbey.

  10. Day 10 Bath City and the Roman Baths

    Today we discover the historic city of Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built on Britain’s only geothermal, mineral springs. Our day begins with a visit to the Roman Baths themselves, incredibly preserved remains of one of the greatest temple spas of the ancient world. The afternoon is then at your leisure to spend as you please in the city. You may choose to visit the elegant Royal Crescent, follow in the footsteps of famed author Jane Austen at the Austen Centre or simply indulge in shopping in the local boutqiues. By evening the group dines together at a special restaurant where we raise a glass to our tour.

  11. Day 11 Stonehenge and Salisbury

    On our final day, we depart Bath and travel across the mysterious Salisbury Plain to possibly Britain’s most iconic attraction, the pre-historic standing stones of Stonehenge. Here we view the awe-inspiring monoliths themselves before visiting the interactive visitor centre. By afternoon we stop in the historic city of Salisbury whose cathedral is home to England's oldest clock and tallest spire. A shot onward drive brings us to London where our tour ends.
