  1. Day 1 Salisbury, Stonehenge and the Jurassic Coast

Departing London, we head West on to the Salisbury Plain to the ancient and mysterious site of Stonehenge, one of England's most iconic landmarks. After attempting to unravel the mysteries of its extimated 4000 year history we’ll make the short journey to the medieval city of Salisbury, whose elegant cathedral boasts England’s tallest spire and an original copy of the Magna Carta. By afternoon we arrive in Dorset and England’s South coast to visit Durdle Door, a beautiful limestone arch reaching out in to the English Channel. This is just one of many features of the "Jurassic Coast" whose geological history dates back some 185 million years. Later we continue west towards the Roman city of Exeter, our overnight destination.

Overnight: Mercure Southgate Hotel (or similar), Exeter

  2. Day 2 Dartmoor, Polperro and Poldark’s Charlestown

Today we ascend into the higher grounds of the scenic Dartmoor National Park where we’ll traverse narrow lanes and spot the native wild ponies who roam freely on the moors. Then we descend in to the port town of Plymouth; in 2020 the town celebrates the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers setting sail for the "New World" - we'll explore the harbour and find the famous ‘Mayflower Steps’. By afternoon, we cross the border into Cornwall; a county with a unique Celtic heritage including their own language and flag. We'll pause at the traditional fishing village of Polperro to explore the tangle of narrow streets and the harbour where smuggling once thrived. Then onwards to Charlestown, whose port remains largely unchanged since the late 18th and which you might recognise from the popular TV show Poldark. Our final stop is in Falmouth, our overnight base for the next two nights.

Overnight: St Michaels Hotel (or similar), Falmouth

    Meals: Breakfast included

  3. Day 3 St Michael’s Mount, Minack Theatre and Land’s End

Today we’ll discover some of the most isolated parts of Cornwall’s coastline. First stop is the iconic St Michaels Mount an off-shore island whose famous monastery has its origins as far back as the 8th century. We’ll hear tales of pirates as we pass through Penzance before making our way to the renowned Minack Theatre, a stunning open-air amphitheatre carved in to the cliffs; hear the inspiring story of dedication and English eccentricity which resulted in its creation. Finally, we head for Lands End, the most Westerly point of Britain where nothing but ocean separates you from the Americas. Later, we return to Falmouth where you’ll enjoy free time to explore this historic harbour town; perhaps visit Henry VIIIs Pendennis castle or the local Maritime Museum.

Overnight: St Michaels Hotel (or similar), Falmouth

    Meals: Breakfast included

  4. Day 4 St Ives, Port Isaac and Tintagel

Today is dedicated to Cornwall’s north coast. Our first stop is the popular seaside town of St Ives; once a thriving fishing town today the town is a haven for budding artists and art-lovers alike. Stroll along the cobbled lanes, pop your head into a local art gallery or walk along the front of one of the golden beaches for inspiration. Next, we’ll meander around the Camel Estuary to reach the secluded fishing village of Port Isaac; this bustling port may already be familiar to you as the primary filming location of the popular TV series Doc Martin. Better known as ‘Portwen’ we’ll have time to explore the village and spot the landmarks including the schoolhouse and even Doc Martin’s house! After lunch we’ll continue along the coast to the dramatic ruins of Tintagel Castle, legendary birthplace of King Arthur. The site is shrouded in history, mystery and myth but also offers spectacular panoramas of the rugged Cornish coast. By late afternoon, we make our way back to Exeter for the final night of our tour.

Overnight: Mercure Southgate Hotel (or similar), Exeter

    Meals: Breakfast included

  5. Day 5 Bath and Cotswolds villages

Returning North through the county of Somerset our first stop this morning is the one of most beautiful cities in Britain; Bath. With its origins in Roman times the city boomed in the Georgian period resulting in a city whose Roman Baths are a centrepiece set amidst elegant Regency architecture. Here you’ll have ample time to explore including the Roman Baths themselves, the Abbey, Jane Austen Centre or architectural highlights such as the Royal Crescent and the Circus. After lunch we make our way into The Cotswolds, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. As we pass through the classic English countryside we’ll stop at one or more of the quintessential Cotswold villages such as Castle Combe arguably the most picture-perfect village in England. By afternoon we make our way back to London where our tour ends.

    Meals: Breakfast included
