DAY ONE

Heart of England Tour - Bibury Cotswolds

Bibury, Gloucestershire, England

The Dreaming Spires of Oxford and the Cotswolds

Departing London, relax as we travel through the beautiful English countryside to the most famous University City in the world, Oxford. Picture the poets, professors, politicians, scientists and sporting heroes that have strolled Oxford's streets as we begin our journey with a walking tour among the college quads, golden-stone buildings and 'dreaming of this lazy university town and gain an insight in to one of the famous colleges. We then swap the city for the quintessential English countryside as we traverse the gentle, patchwork hills of the Cotswolds; we'll pass through landscapes peppered with centuries-old villages, thatch cottages and rambling manors. Our destination is one of the region's gems in the market town of Chipping Campden, our base for the next two nights. Tonight we enjoy a welcome dinner together.

DAY TWO

Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon and Cotswold Villages

Today's itinerary provides a feast for literary enthusiasts and history buffs as we visit Shakespeare country and the Cotswold region. We firstly visit the charming thatched farmhouse where the young William Shakespeare courted his future bride Anne Hathaway to see the home and blooming gardens, seemingly frozen in time. Then on to Stratford-upon-Avon itself as we pay our respects to the playwright with a visit to the place of the Bard's Birth and his final resting place at Holy Trinity Church. We then meander through Cotswolds country following the lanes and passes through patchwork hills and honey coloured villages, typical of the region with an opportunity to visit one or more of these charming hamlets. Tonight we return to our delightful Cotswolds base for an evening at leisure.

DAY THREE

Historic Lacock and Cream Tea at Castle Combe

Traditional Afternoon Tea

Today we pass south to the picture-perfect village of Lacock, retaining its historic character the town has been used in countless period television and movie productions including Pride and Prejudice, The Other Boleyn Girl. We step inside the glorious Lacock Abbey whose elegant and peaceful cloisters you may recognize as parts of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies. We'll enjoy time to wander the village and visit the museum to learn about the 19th century photography pioneer Fox Talbot. Then it's on to the chocolate-box village of Castle Combe, set amidst the Wiltshire hills on the southern-most edge of the Cotswold; home to weavers' cottages lining the riverbanks, it's often called 'the prettiest village in England', and provides the perfect backdrop for a traditional Cotswolds cream tea. We then continue to tonight's accommodation in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath, a vibrant regency township with a great choice of bars and restaurants. The evening is yours to enjoy the city as you wish.

DAY FOUR

Heart of England Tour - Bath sightseeing

Bath Spa, England

Bath City, the Roman Baths and Royal Crescent

Listed as a World Heritage Site, Bath is truly one of Europe's most attractive cities, with the highest concentration of listed buildings anywhere in the British Isles. This morning we will explore the city's unique history firstly at the stunningly restored Roman Baths and Georgian pump room before seeing the towering 15th century Abbey and fascinating Pulteney Bridge. Then we indulge in a fashionable Georgian past-time by promenading along the Royal Crescent for sweeping hill-top views of the city. It's here we visit No. 1 Royal Crescent which offers an authentic glimpse in to an 18th century townhouse and its residents from the wealthy owners who might have lived like characters from an Austen novel to the workers living "below stairs". This afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. Those seeking to relax may visit the Thermae Bath Spa, Britain's original and only natural thermal spa whilst literary enthusiasts might choose to visit the Jane Austen Centre, which offers a snapshot of her life and explores how living in this magnificent city affected her writing. Others may simply choose to explore the myriad of small independent shops and stylish boutiques typical of the city. Tonight we will enjoy a farewell dinner together.

DAY FIVE

The Longleat Estate and UNESCO Avebury Stone-circle

A fitting follow up to regal Bath, today we drive to the beautiful Longleat Estate, a truly English stately home and gardens, currently the seat of the Marquess of Bath. We'll enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the house, its architecture and opulent interiors. Later, we continue to the village of Avebury to visit the UNESCO World Heritage standing stones at Avebury Stone Circle, an immense circle set within an ancient landscape of enigmatic monuments, tombs and roads that were first walked millennia ago. But whilst nearby Stonehenge attracts tourists from all around the world and security prevents you from getting anywhere near the stones, at Avebury visitors can walk freely amongst the stones in relative peace and quiet – a truly enchanting experience. Later today we take a leisurely drive back to the English capital arriving in London by approximately 5.30pm.
