DAY ONE

Arrival in Cardiff, Capital of Wales

A snapshot of Wales tour - Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle, Cardiff, Wales

This morning board the train in London Paddington Station and travel to Cardiff, the Welsh Capital (rail travel included in your tour package). Arriving in the Cardiff you can drop your luggage at your hotel and the balance of the day is free to explore the city at your leisure; use your included Cardiff City Sightseeing open-top bus tour tickets to experience the sights and sounds of the Welsh Capital. The tour will take you around the highlights of the city viewing the Principality Stadium, home of the Welsh national rugby team and the Welsh government buildings at the Senedd. Perhaps alight for a time in the Cardiff Bay area where you'll find the bars and cafes of Mermaid Quay, the cultural Millennium Centre, and the Victorian Pierhead and Norwegian Church buildings both of which are home to arts and cultural exhibitions.

DAY TWO

Cardiff Castle and St Fagans Museum of Welsh Life

Today explore Cardiff on foot and public transport; begin by wandering the Edwardian baroque architecture of Cathays Park, home to the national museum and gallery of Wales or visit the Victorian market and shopping arcades. Then make your way to the city's magnificent centrepiece at Cardiff Castle which combines Roman and Norman history with a gloriously lavish Victorian mansion. By afternoon you may choose to travel by taxi or public transport to the outskirts of the city to visit the St Fagans Museum of Welsh Life a sprawling open air collection of real historic buildings and exhibitions which details life in Wales throughout the ages from the first Celtic settlers to the industrial revolution.

DAY THREE

Laugharne, Pembrokeshire and Tenby

Tenby, Wales

This morning, meet your tour guide in central Cardiff; joined by your guide and a group of like-minded people we make our way West in to rural Wales heading for the beautiful Pembrokeshire peninsula. On route we make a stop at the small town of Laugharne where famed Welsh poet Dylan Thomas spent the last years of his life before learning about welsh Lovespoons as we visit a family workshop dedicated to the ancient tradition of hand-carving them. Later we arrive in Tenby, a picture postcard town widely regarded as the jewel in the crown of the Welsh Riviera; it's medieval town walls encircle a bustling harbour and two sweeping sandy bays divided by a rocky headland.

DAY FOUR

St Davids Cathedral and Cardigan Bay

Together we make our way through the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside to the most Westerly point of Wales where we visit the unique city of St Davids, namesake of the Welsh patron saint. This tiny village receives city status owing to its magnificent Cathedral which we'll visit along with the ruins of the neighbouring medieval Bishops Castle. Later we head north passing the sweeping sands of Cardigan Bay. We'll visit the charming harbour town of Aberaeron and later make our way to Victorian resort town of Aberystwyth to take a tour of Wales' National Library.

DAY FIVE

Devils Bridge, the Cambrian Mountains and Valle Crucis Abbey

This morning we board the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway to enjoy a journey in deep in to the Cambrian Mountains. Arriving in the secluded village of Devil's Bridge we'll view the stacked bridges and enjoy walk to see the waterfalls which inspired a work by Wordsworth; surrounded by myth the falls are also said to be the last place the Devil visited in Wales. This afternoon travel into North Wales and spend some time at the superbly located Valle Crucis Abbey, once the home of an order of Cistercian Monks.

DAY SIX

The Snowdonia National Park and Carnarfon Castle

Our drive today takes us over the Menai Straits to the island of Angelsey where we have a photo-stop at the place with the longest name in Europe; Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerych-wyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. We then return to the mainland to visit the busy market town of Caernarfon where you will visit the imposing medieval Castle, which was used for the investiture of Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. This afternoon head in to the glorious mountain scenery of the Snowdonia National Park; here we explore the region's industrial heritage at the National Slate Museum before visiting the Bodnant Welsh Food Centre to discover Welsh cuisine and produce at its finest.

DAY SEVEN

Tour Ends in North Wales

This morning your tour ends after breakfast in your hotel. Complimentary transfers are available to the nearby train station where you can board your rail link back to London (alternative destinations available). The journey to London is approximately 3hrs 15mins. Post-tour accommodation can be booked in London or other locations and airports across Britain as required, please ask for further information.
